We received a letter from Ms. Kathy Forrester advising us of the gratefulness she felt for the exemplary work you did after responding to her mother’s home and finding that her mother had passed away.
She stated that the sensitivity you showed when contacting her with the news of her mother;s passing showed what a true professional and caring person you are.
Along with other officers, she was truly grateful and impressed with the way you made sure her mother’s home and safe were secured, her two dogs were taken care of and in general the way you all went above and beyond your regular duties to assist during this difficult time.
Congratulations on the excellent work done by all four officers involved in the this incident.

NPD SWAT TEAM
Roadside Rescue of Endangered Motorists
In November of 2008, several members of the Naples Police SWAT team were traveling to Orlando to compete in the SWAT Round-Up, a national competition involving SWAT teams from all over the country. While traveling in heavy rain on I-4 and SR 528, the team witnessed a vehicle ahead of them hydroplane, flip over and land in a ditch. the vehicle landed on its side and was taking on water quickly due to the rain.
The team immediately stopped and sprung into action, going down into the ditch, which already had close to 3 feet of watere in it, and pulling out a couple and their two grandchildren. Sheriff Kevin Beary, now retired, has stated “Four lives were saved by SWAT team members because of their professionalism and training. They put themselves at risk to save the lives of these four citizens.”
Sheriff Beary has forwarded the information to the current Orange County Sheriff, Jerry Deming, in hopes the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will also consider reviewing the incident for possible commendation by their agency.

Youth Academy (August 2009)
August 2009
From August 10th to August 14th, 2009, personnel of the Naples Police and Fire Department conducted the second session of the annual Youth Academy. This academy was a success due in part to the time taken by individual members of the department such as you taking time to share your knowledge with the youth of the community.
Congratulations on yet another successful Youth Academy provided by the dedicated members of our department.

BBQ Lunch Benefit Volunteer
On July 24th, 2009 members of the Naples Police and Fire Department volunteered and/or took personal leave to volunteer at the barbeque held to benefit Hunter DiMaria, the daughter of B/C Pete DiMaria.
Many hours of planning, shopping, set up and clean up were performed. The “Chefs” manned the grills the entire event without relief.
We would like to give a thank you to all in out department who planned and worked this event on their own time which resulted in over $4,000.00 being raised for Hunter.

Seeing Eye Dog Training
June 2009
We received a letter from Ms. Kanach, who wanted to advise us of how much she appreciated your team assisting her seeing eye dog in training for the surprise element and stability with regard to the sound of gunshots.
She stated this is an integral part of training for Seeing Eye Dogs and will be beneficial for her public exposure and responsibility to her owner.
